What is raw on 5?

Raw on 5 is an upscale, seafood-focused specialty dining restaurant on Celebrity Cruises.

The name "Raw on 5" comes from its location on Deck 5 of the ship, and the "raw" part refers to its sushi bar and raw seafood offerings like oysters, sashimi, and specialty rolls, if those are your jam.

The concept is pretty chic, offering a variety of high-quality dishes, like nigiri, sushi rolls, and ceviches, all prepared fresh.

If you're a seafood lover looking to indulge in some elegant and creative dining at sea, Raw on 5 is for you!

But what if you're not into slimy oysters, raw fish on rice, or seafood in general? Don't worry! You can find hot plates sans seafood like Tonkotsu Ramen, Pork Belly Skewers, and Chicken Ginger Gyoza at Raw on 5.

If you're vegetarian, Edamame and Miso Soup await you! :)

Which Ships have Raw on 5?

Raw on 5 is available on Celebrity Edge Class Ships including Celebrity Edge, Celebrity Apex, Celebrity Ascent, and Celebrity Beyond.

Does Celebrity Xcel have Raw on 5? Great question! Celebrity Xcel will soon join the fleet of Edge Class Ships and while we can assume it will, hang tight for official word. ;)

How much does Raw on 5 cost?

While some Specialty Dining restaurants have a cover charge which allows you to order anything from the menu, others are a la carte style. (Remember our Le Grand Bistro Review?)

Raw on 5 is a la carte style. This means you order off the menu like any restaurant you are used to on land and pay the price per item.

This can make specialty dining more approachable as you may only want one specific item for $15 and wouldn't find a cover charge of $50 to be worth it.

On the other hand, some prefer a flat-fee cover charge as they feel more confident to step out of their comfort zone when ordering resting assured they can always add an order of something more "safe" if they don't like their adventurous choice.

Rolls & Nigiri - Celebrity Raw on 5 Menu

Okay so most of us are probably excited about sushi when we think of dining at Raw on 5.

How much is the sushi?
With $10 to $16 you can enjoy the classic California Roll elevated with Snow Crab (que fancy!) instead of imitation crab, the Beyond Roll featuring Spicy Tuna and Shrimp Tempura, or even some Nigiri!

Wait. What is Nigiri?
Nigiri is a cute little mound of rice with a slice of raw fish atop. See your sushi emoji's for a visual. ;)

I'm looking at these sushi menu options and there literally is not a single item I would not love to try!

How fun would it be to waltz in and say "I'll take one of each!"

Raw & Barely Dressed - CELEBRITY RAW ON 5 MENU

With the likes of Sashimi, Oysters, and Tiradito, the Raw and Barely Dressed menu is not for the faint of heart.

What is Sashimi?
Sashimi is like Nigiri without rice. So basically a slice of high quality raw fish.

What is Hamachi Tiradito?
This is an interesting Peruvian dish which highlights Japanese influence in Peru. Hamachi is yellowtail tuna. Tiradito is made with sliced raw fish (in this case yellowtail tuna), sashimi style, and dressed in a spicy citrus outfit.

Is Tiradito the same as Ceviche?
Not quite. Ceviche is made of cubed raw fish or other seafood which is marinated in citrus that essentially cures it. On the other hand tiradito is made of slices of raw fish and is dressed in citrus just before serving so it remains totally raw, uncured, bright and fresh.

I'd say Tiradito and Ceviche are cousins.

What is Kakiage? It's a tempura Japanese dish. So on Celebrity Beyond you can have shrimp and scallop dipped in tempura batter and deep fried if you order the Shrimp and Scallop Kakiage. That sounds delicious!

What is Furikake? The Crispy Shrimp are seasoned with Furikake, a Japanese seasoning that is crunchy, salty, and a bit nutty/earthy. It usually includes dried fish, seaweed, salt and sugar. Furikake apparently means sprinkle in Japanese, as in "to sprinkle", but the seasoning is on the chunky side and really looks like savory sprinkles!

Creamy Oysters? I'll probably skip these hehe.

What is Kushikatsu? It's deep-fried skewered meat and vegetables - yum!

What is Tonkotsu?
Tonkotsu is a super delicious, rich broth made from pork bones. After simmering for a long time the broth becomes creamy and it's the ultimate umami comfort food. Love it so much!

It originated in Fukuoka, Japan and sometime I'll share some pics of a quick trip we took to Fukuoka!

The cocktails at Raw on 5 are all crafted on a base of Pure Snow Sake.

What is Sake?
Sake is Japanese rice wine.

I've only ever had sake on its own (always served in an adorable tiny cup) so I am really intrigued by these cocktails.

Here's the order I would try them in:

Tea Leaf - love St. Germain
Gingertini - intrigued by the ginger
Tokyo Rose - Fan of cranberry over here
Snowberry - I have a thing about blue curaçao, idk, not a fan of food coloring I suppose.

A bit suprised there are no matcha teas or matcha lattes on the dessert beverage list at Raw on 5.

You basically have the standard espresso and latte options along with some late harvest wines including a Canadian ice wine.

Are cocktails at raw on 5 included in the beverage package?

This is a good question and the answer is yes! But also no. Err.. Sort of.. Probably, maybe, it depends. :p

Really it depends which drink package you have.

If you have the Classic Drink Package, everything is included up to $10 per drink.

If you have the Premium Drink Package, everything is included up to $17 per drink.

Cocktails at Raw on 5 run $12-15. So they are included if you have the premium drink package, but if you have the classic drink package you will need to pay the difference between $10 and the cocktail price. So each drink will cost you an additional $2-5.

With the Classic package you could enjoy glasses of Snow Maiden Sake ($10), Le Bel Oliver Rosé ($10) or Corte Giara Pinot Grigio ($10) for 'free'. Also feel free to order your favorite classics off menu.

Desserts - CELEBRITY RAW ON 5 MENU

Things you're probably wondering about on the Dessert Menu at Raw on 5:

What is Yuzu?
Yuzu is not the same as a lemon, but it very much looks like a lemon and is a highly fragrant citrus fruit!

What is Nori?
Nori is dried, edible seaweed. You may be familiar with its use in sushi rolls. Nori is loaded with vitamins and minerals!

What is Lychee?
Ooo Lychee is such a yummy fruit! They look so exotic on the outside with their bumpy red skin, and inside they are sweet and juicy. They always remind me of a cross between a skinless grape and a pear.

What is red bean paste?
A lot of asian cultures use red bean paste in their desserts, especially Japan. Made by boiling red beans and mashing them until smooth, the paste can then be sweetened or left as is.

Celebrity's Raw on 5 Review

After doing a deep dive into the menus, I am really impressed with the offerings at Raw on 5. I think Celebrity has done a great job sharing some dishes that adventurous foodie passengers would find exotic and unique while still providing a number of options for their less daring travel buddies! ;)

I'm looking forward to trying Raw on 5 on my next Celebrity Cruise.

Maloca da Tuttapanna is located in Quarteira, specifically the prestigious Vilamoura area, and describes their cuisine as Amazonian, Sushi Fusion, and European.

The restaurant has a nice aesthetic (I mean what's not to love about this golden monkey?!) so one day after a late shift at os carrinhos (the carts/trolleys) we decided to snag an outside table and try their pizza and sushi.

Random combo, I know.

Marguerita pizza - €11.50

Tomato, Mozzarella, and Basil

Sushi Jó (3 pieces) - €5

Salmon, Rice, Sesame Seeds, Curry - despite looking so random, this sushi was delicious!

Lisbon is one of the best foodie destinations and for those who want to know if Lisbon has good sushi, the answer is a resounding yes!

You can definitely get your sushi fix in Lisboa! =)

We tried one of the many sushi restaurants in Lisbon and with a 4.9/5 rating on google it could possibly be Lisbon's best sushi.

sushi Fixe Miraflores

Sushi Fixe is a sushi cafe with inside and outdoor seating in the Lisbon neighborhood of Miraflores, an Uber ride of less than 10 minutes from Belem, costing around 4 euros at the time of this post.

You may be thinking "Sushi Fixe is an interesting name. I wonder what it means and how do I even pronounce that?" I got you.

What does Fixe mean in English? Fixe is Portuguese slang for something that is cool or great. Fixe is pronounced "Feesh"

Sushi Rodizio Lisboa

As the sign indicates (if you look closely), Sushi Fixe is a Restaurante Rodízio.

What is rodízio in Portugal?
So you may notice some restaurants in Portugal are called rodízios. Rodízio is a portuguese word that basically means "rotation" in English.

This restaurant style originated in Brazil where diners pay a set price for their meal and waiters bring around a variety of fresh meats off the spit, in rotation. It's an all-you-can-eat style of dining.

The rodízio concept in Portugal is not exclusively for churrasqueiras serving grilled meats. There are fish rodízios, pizza rodízios, and sushi rodízios in all of Portugal, including Lisbon, just to name a few iterations.

Sushi Fixe Menu

Sushi Fix is basically a sushi buffet in Lisbon, only the rolls aren't sitting on display for unknown lengths of time and you don't have to get up for them.

How it works:
You have a slip of paper at your table with a list of menu items and space to write a number down. You simply write how many of each item you want and the sushi is made fresh to order! Since this is an unlimited sushi situation your waiter will come back and you can continue ordering more sushi as needed!

At the time we went, the price for this sushi rodizio in Lisbon was as shown below:
Almoço (Lunch) 13.95€
Jantar (Dinner) 15.95€
Prices listed are por pessoa (per person).

On the weekend (fim de semana) or public holiday (feriado) it's 15.95 euro per person.

Children (crianças) 4 and under are free (não pagam - they do not pay)
Children 5-10 years old pay half price (pagam a metade -they pay half)

Sushi Fize Hours are: 12h-15h (noon to 3pm) and 19h-23h (7pm-11pm)

Here are a few imagens (pictures) de sushi fixe Lisboa! Honestly we did not take many pictures because we were really enjoying the company and conversation, but hopefully these will give you a sense of what to expect when you come to this sushi buffet!

Salmon sushi Boat.

I've always dreamed of getting a sushi boat, but they are usually so expensive and seem like a lot of sushi. This is an amazing opportunity to get one. I never felt so cool in my life. 8)

This boat was quite salmon (salmão) forward with some pops of roe (fish eggs). The thin rice noodles can be seen below as well.

Gyoza.

Big fan of all types of dumplings including Japanese gyoza. These were steamed gyoza.

Tempura Everything.

Tempura shrimp (gambas, also called camarões), tempura vegetables with sweet chili sauce. Fried sushi shown below as well.

Sushi Fixe Reviews

Sushi Fixe is a great sushi restaurant in Lisbon. The value to quality ratio is incredible so it's no wonder they have 4.9 stars on google. Well deserved!

A sushi buffet like this is a great option for sushi lovers and novices alike as you can try so many different types of sushi in a low pressure kind of way. Of course you don't want to be wasteful and you will order conscientiously. Still if you don't love a particular piece it hurts less knowing you can order another roll!

Sushi Fixe also caters to different tastes in your group. Maybe not everyone in your family or friend group loves sushi like you. Now you don't have to fight bitterness because they can order noodles, salad, meat skewers and more while you eat your dream sushi boat!

how to eat sushi

I loved the instructions for eating sushi that are included in the menu and had to laugh because of how common it is to break these recommendations.

Pode - This section shows the things you can do - you can use chopsticks or your hands, you can mergulhe (dip) the sushi fish-side-first into soy sauce, you can set your chopsticks on the ceramic rest when not in use, you can coloque (place/put) the sushi in your mouth fish side down, and finally when you're done eating sushi you can rest the chopsticks on the Hashi-Oki as shown in the picture to signal to the wait staff you are done.

Do's and Don'ts of Eating Sushi - Sushi Fixe Menu

Não Pode - Things you cannot do when eating sushi including: rubbing the chopsticks against each other to 'remove splinters', If the chopsticks are damaged (have splinters), just ask for new ones. You cannot eat sushi in multiple bites, each piece should be eaten whole. You cannot put ginger slices on top of sushi. You should eat it in between pieces as a palate cleanser. You shouldn't put the wasabi paste in the soy sauce. You should place wasabi directly on the sushi. You cannot share wasabi and other sauce dishes with others, they should be individual. Nor should you pass food from your chopsticks to others.

So I'm curious how many sushi faux pas have you made? I have definitely eaten ginger on top of sushi. On this trip for the first time I mixed wasabi paste in soy sauce then later took time to read this page and had to laugh.

Don't worry, no one is going to slap your wrist if you didn't follow these tips for eating sushi. But honestly, I love that they included them.

Making sushi is an art and to appreciate that art there are methods to eating it which, when followed, will enhance your experience and connect you more to the Japanese culture. :)

Is SushI Fixe the best all you can eat sushi in lisbon?

Like anyone could even know that, Napoleon.

Given that sushi fixe (sushi fix as some call it) is the only sushi restaurant we've had the privilege to try in Lisbon so far, I suppose we can't say for sure.

But what we can say is that Sushi Fixe is a great sushi buffet/rodizio in Lisbon and we would go back in a heartbeat!
