Lidl Finds July 2025This month in Lidl seems to be Thai month which is exciting because we love Thailand. We've visited three times and lived in Bangkok for a month (it went so fast!). We love the Thai people, the language, and the food. It will be hard to exercise self control and not pick up every Thai grocery item at Lidl this month. Vacationing in Portugal? Looking for on-the-ground Portugal cost of living information? This series is for you! Updated throughout the month with new finds and honest reviews. Vitasia Thai StylE Curry Pastes

Pierogi. Ravioli. Empanada. Dumpling. Momo. Khinkali. Gyoza. Nearly every nationality has a version of some type of dough stuffed with a delicious filling and then cooked in some way - deep fried, steamed, boiled, and so on. Today we try some Japanese inspired gyoza from Vici brand, purchased at Lidl grocery store. This post is part of a series: July 2025 Lidl Grocery Store Finds • Japanese Food in Portugal More Easy Air Fryer Cooking Ideas |
| Learn Portuguese: Verduras - vegetables Picantes - spicy What does Gyozas de verduras picantes mean in English? Spicy vegetable gyozas! Learn Portuguese Category: In these posts you will learn some Portuguese vocabulary! |
Cooking Instructions & Nutrition Info for VIci Frozen Gyozas
| The package includes visual instructions for how to cook these frozen Japanese gyozas summarized as follows:
|
English Ingredients for Vici Spicy Vegetable Gyoza
You can find an English ingredients list on this package. After the ingredient list you will find more detailed cooking instructions.
How to pan fry dumplings (Gyoza):
How to steam dumplings (gyoza)
How to microwave dumplings (Gyoza)
|
"Put dumplings in a suitable dish with water (dumplings completely covered). For standard 700W microwave, heat for about 5-6 minutes."
How to cook dumplings (Gyoza) in the oven"Cover the dumplings with sauce and cook in the oven (preheated to 200C/395F for about 15 minutes)"
... Not sure what kind of sauce you would be cooking these in though tbh....

How to cook frozen Gyoza (Japanese dumplings) in an air fryer
Despite the package having instructions for not one, two, three, or four, but FIVE cooking methods... we opted do none of those and instead try cooking Vici gyoza in our air fryer!
See More: Air Fryer Cooking
We arranged 14 gyoza in our air fryer and spritzed with cooking spray. We air fried them at 200C, the highest temp on our air fryer, for about 10 minutes and checked for internal temp and color.
Can you cook frozen gyoza in an air fryer?
Absolutely! This is an easy way to cook these little Japanese parcels of joy. As you can probably tell from the photos, the dough is quite crispy.
More often when you have gyoza the dough is soft and starchy with one side having a nice crust from being fried in a pan. So this is a different experience, for sure.
Vici Gyozas de verduras picantes Review
We have repurchased these at Lidl multiple times and they are great to have on hand for a busy night or when you're too tired to cook.
See how they turn out when cooked in a pan... ( Cook along coming soon!)

We recently shared a drinkable Skyr product review and today we are sharing a squeeze pouch which will bring out your inner child.
Milbona Skyr Iceladic Style Vanilla Flavor
As mentioned in the other article, Skyr has a much higher protein content than similar dairy and yogurt products as it takes 4 cups of milk to make 1 cup of Skyr.
More Easy Protein Ideas
We picked up these Vanilla Skyr pouches at Lidl in Portugal.
Lidl Vanilla Skyr Ingredients and Nutrition Information
The package contains ingredient listings in an impressive 5 languages.
As well as the nutritional information. As you can see, Milbona Icelandic Style Skyr has 9 grams of protein per 100g pouch!
Milbona Strawberry Skyr Icelandic Style
We also grabbed a package of the strawberry Skyr pouches from Lidl.
Lidl Strawberry Skyr Ingredients and Nutrition Facts
Milbona Icelandic Skyr Review
We only discovered Skyr during our time in Portugal and we have grown to love it as it is an easy way to get more protein in and it tastes great!
Milbona Icelandic Style Skyr from Lidl is thick and creamy and we think it's really good. :)
50/50 on the format - one of us does not prefer the pouch format at all and would rather have a more liquidy version like this but both of us are happy to be getting 9 grams of protein so easily - YAY!
We rebuy these almost every week. You can always find skyr in our fridge. Go ahead and give them a try.
FYI they do have sucralose, which you'll recall from this battle of the juices taste off is not my favorite.

- Is Milbona Skyr good? Yes!

- Which Milbona Skyr flavor is best? Totally subjective, of course, but I would say Blueberry, then Strawberry, then Vanilla. We buy them all though - variety is the spice of life! :)
- I like Yogurt, will I like Skyr? Yes, very probably so.
- I don't like yogurt, will I like Skyr? You may or may not, but be brave and give it a try ;)
Solevita Multifrutos ACE vs Limonada de Mirtilo – Lidl Portugal Juice Taste Test & Comparison
8/7/2025
Time to taste-test and review two popular Lidl Portugal juices – Solevita Multifrutos ACE and Limonada de Mirtilo. Which one is more refreshing, flavorful, and worth your money? Find out in this juice showdown.
Solevita Multifrutos ACE Sumo
First up we have ACE multifrutos sumo (juice) from the brand Solevita, purchased at Lidl in Portugal.
Learn Portuguese words in this post!
What's in Multifrutos ACE juice from Solevita?
The carrot (cenoura in Portuguese) juice is accompanied by apple juice, and white grape juice to make a delicious, smooth juice packed with vitamins A, C, and E as the name suggests. ;)
Limonada de Mirtilo
Next up is the Limonada de Mirtilo, or Blueberry Lemonade also by the brand Solevita and purchased at Lidl Portugal.
What's in Solevita Limonada de Mirtilo?
Solevita Limonada de Mirtilo Ingredients and Nutrition Facts:
A crisp lemonade is always refreshing in the summer time and who wouldn't love the extra antioxidant punch of blueberries and spirulina?
Which Juice IS Best:
While the lemonade is refreshing and I'm sure I will pick it up again from time to time, my personal pick is the Multifrutos ACE juice. I love having some carrot juice and combining it with apple and white grape makes it so smooth and enjoyable!
Also I'm not the biggest fan of the taste of sucralose (Splenda) so it's always the first thing I taste when it's in a beverage like this blueberry lemonade. I appreciate it can take a lot of natural sugar to balance a lemonade and that isn't suitable for everyone, though.
Multifrutos ACE juice for the WIN! :)

Top Questions:
- Is Solevita Blueberry Lemonade Good? Yes. Is Solevita Multifruit ACE Juice Good? Yes. :)
- Is Solevita Multifrutos ACE better than Limonada de Mirtilo? Acho que sim. I believe so, yes.
- What is Splenda called in Portugal? In Portuguese Splenda is sucralosa. Sucralosa is the Portuguese word for sucralose - the sweetener known by the brand Splenda in the yellow packet.
Sliced Mozzarella Cheese - Better at Continente or Lidl?
Both Lidl and Continente have a similar packaging for their cheese slices. A plastic package that does not re-seal. *eyeroll* It's a great way for cheese to get dried out and weird quick.
Continente Queijo Mozzarella
Continente Mozzarella Cheese slices were inconsistently sliced, a sort of square-ish shape, and in this case those indents are just because this slice was on the bottom of the package.
Milbona Sliced Mozzarella Cheese from Lidl
Blind Taste Test Results
In the blind taste test we assumed the creamier cheese with less flavor was Lidl brand and the slice with more robust flavor was Continente's. We preferred the more flavorful slice.
In reality, the more flavorful slice belonged to Lidl's Milbona brand!
Therefore Lidl brand wins this taste off!
Which Mozzarella Cheese Should YOU BUy?
In the grand scheme of things, both of these are nice slices of mozzarella cheese which are tasty to eat on their own and melt well in, say, a grilled cheese sandwich.
After doing this taste test we repurchased Continente's because we happened to be at that grocery store when we needed more mozz. However if we were going to both stores we would pick it up at Lidl instead. :)

Vitasia Glass Noodles Ingredients + Nutrition Facts
The Vitasia Glass Noodles from Lidl have 2 simple ingredients: amido de milho and amido de ervilha, that is corn starch and pea starch.
How to Cook Vitasia Glass Noodles
Instead, simply boil water and pour it over the noodles and allow them to sit for 6 minutes before draining.
I actually used an electric tea kettle. :)

Classic Portuguese Flavored Chips (Crisps)
One very portuguese flavor of chips you will find when living in Portugal or while on holiday in Portugal is Leitão.
What Is Leitao?
Snack Day com Sabor a Molho de Leitão Batatas Fritas Ingredients and Nutrition Facts
Lidl Leitao Chips Review
I'm a big fan of the leitao chips. I think they are a fun, very Portuguese flavor of crisps to try. I love that they have chosen wavy, ridge chips for this flavor.
While they aren't a flavor I want every single time, when you're in the mood for something a bit different they can be just what the doctor ordered. I love the peppery bite and I'm never mad I bought them.

For Snack Lovers:
This comically illustrates how the Portuguese feel about soup.
Ready made Soup in Portuguese Grocery Stores
You'll find the famous caldo verde (green soup) made with greens like kale or collard greens and chouriço. Aside from that you'll find a variety of vegetable based soups, mostly creamy, and most with potatoes.
But sometimes you just want some chicken soup!
Chicken Soup in Portugal
For whatever reason I've found it difficult to find a basic chicken soup in Portugal. Of course you can make your own and that's always the best, but sometimes you aren't up for that.
Bouillon cubes are popular in Portugal, but you don't commonly see premade chicken stock or chicken broth to use as a base for soup or other cooking purpose unlike in the US where you will find an aisle full of vegetable, chicken, and beef stock and broth options.
When I saw this chicken soup at Lidl I had to give it a try!
Chef Select Canja Galinha Sem batata
Chef Select Canja Galinha Sem Batata is a chicken noodle soup without potatoes. Many ready-to-eat soups in Portugal contain potatoes, whether in chunks or blended for texture and thickness.
This chicken soup from Lidl receives an A nutrition score and comes in a single serve package which you can microwave, but I opt to reheat on the stovetop personally.
Lidl Canja de Frango Ingredients and Nutrition Facts
What I love about the fresh soups throughout Portugual is they tend to have a short ingredient list that you can feel good about.
Ingredients: Shredded cooked chicken, carrots, onion, salt, parsley, durum wheat noodles, mint.
Allergens: Contains Gluten!
Also warns that that it could contain vestiges of other allergens like crustaceans, eggs, fish, soy, milk, mustard, mollusks etc.
How To Reheat Lidl Chicken Soup
I opted to reheat in a pan on my single burner cooktop.
Plenty of Noodles in Chef Select Canja Galinha
Lidl Canja Galinha Review:
Now piping hot, you can see the glistening broth of this cozy chicken soup. Shreds of chicken were not bountiful, but were present. Plenty of noodles and a simple, comforting broth made it a pleasure to eat this chicken soup.
I really enjoyed Lidl's Canja Galinha Chicken Noodle Soup and would rebuy!
What to serve with chicken soup:
- Enjoy with saltine crackers
- Portuguese Bread and Portuguese Olive Oil
- Side Salad
- Some crisp refreshing fruits like grapes or sliced apples
What To Buy And What To Skip In Portuguese Grocery Stores:
Our 16th anniversary was last month and we had a great day starting with a blueberry pancake and mimosa anniversary brunch!
How to make pancakes 101:
When making pancakes, I prefer to use a combination of butter and oil in the pan. This is not to be extra, there is a reason!
Butter helps create lovely golden crisp on your pancake, but it also burns faster than oil. So as you continue cooking pancakes you're more likely to get some a little too dark if you use only butter because of how the pan will retain heat.
When you add some oil to the butter and swirl it together, you essentially increase the smoking point, so you can get that buttery golden touch without burning so easily! Still, keep an eye on the heat of your pan and adjust as needed.
I tossed a few blueberries on, just for fun. You can use frozen blueberries for pancakes. That's what these were. :)
New Category Added: Cook Along!
When To Flip A PanCake
It's important to let the first side of a pancake cook enough to enable a successful flip. Wait until you see lots of little bubbles on the surface like below and then go for it!
Try to flip with confidence and voila! You've revealed your golden-edged pancake - well done!
What to serve with blueberry pancakes
I wanted to make the meal a little more complete and eggs are a natural choice, however I only have access to a single burner cook top at the moment which was occupied for the pancakes. So I decided to attempt to make eggs in the air fryer along with these tasty duchess potatoes.
How long to cook fried eggs in an air fryer:
So I first cooked the duchess potatoes almost completely, minus about 5 minutes. Then I added the reusable silicone dinosaur molds (its all I had lol) for those last few minutes in order to time everything poiiiifectly!
Well timed, but not well photographed - forgot! Sorry!
Fita Azul Blanc de Blancs Reserva - Espumante
Some friends had kindly brought us a bottle of Fita Azul Blanc de Blancs Reserva Espumante recently and this was perfect to make some anniversary mimosas!
How to make a mimosa
Mimosa: Sparkling wine first or juice first?
So in my head, I thought if you pour juice on top of the sparkling wine, doesn't that collapse some of the bubbles? Maybe, idk, but apparently the 'right' way is to pour the sparkling wine in first and then top with orange juice.
What is the right ratio of wine to juice for a mimosa?
Want mostly champagne with a bit of OJ? Go for it!
This is a low stress, easy-to-make, fun drink for a celebration. It's a special occasion - enjoy it!
PS. When in Portugal, if you can, please do try the fresh orange juice machines in grocery stores. The orange juice is delicious and as fresh as can be because you toss the oranges in yourself!
If you're going for juice from the juice isle, look specifically for the "laranja do algarve" labels as these orange juices feature the best oranges in Portugal - the ones from the beautiful, sunny Algarve. ;)
Pancake Anniversary Brunch: Done!
PS If you're having a hard time finding real maple syrup in Portugal - try Lidl!
As Seen In This Post:
- Lidl Maribel Bio Organic Maple Syrup (similar)
- Compal Origens Laranja do Algarve
- Lidl Deluxe Duchess Potatoes
- Fita Azul Blanc de Blancs Reserva Espumante
- Frozen Blueberries
- Dinosaur Silicone Molds (similar)

Looking For A Drink With a Tangy, Tropical Twist? | Compal Manga, Maracuja, Limao Juice Review
7/20/2025
Compal Manga, Maracujá, Limão Sumo
| We recently tried Compal's mango, passionfruit and lemon juice and I've got to say it's a good one. Mango nectar can be quite thick and viscous as well as very sweet. On the other hand passion fruit is usually a light and tart juice. That makes the combination of mango and passionfruit a beautiful pairing! Great to drink on its own, chilled, or as the base of a fruit smoothie (loved it with frozen blueberries) this is a fun juice blend to try while you are in Portugal. Looking for an easy cocktail idea?We recently had an anniversary mimosa brunch and I think this mango-passionfruit juice would make a fun twist on a classic mimosa. Swap out the traditional orange juice for this and see what you think! :) |
What is Compal Anyway?
