Shahi Darbar Indian Restaurant in Armacao de Pera, Portugal

It may come as a surprise to you, but Portugal is blessed with an abundance of Indian restaurants, even in the Algarve, which are really quite good. Shahi Darbar in Armacao de Pera is definitely adding to that reputation.

A location quite convenient to the beaches of Armacao de Pera, much like this brunch spot, Shahi Darbar is an easy choice for a tasty Indian meal.

Paneer chili 9,50€

Paneer is a fresh Indian cheese and if you haven't tried it yet, we think you should give it a go. You will usually see it under the vegetarian section of the menu at an Indian restaurant.

Paneer dishes can often be found in the same sauces and styles as your favorite meat dishes like tikka masala.

Looking to spice things up with your Indian bread order? Why not try the garlic chili naan?

Chicken Tikka Masala 9,50€

A comforting and flavorful Indian classic - Chicken Tikka Masala served in a traditional Indian dish set over a candle to keep it warm table-side.

Pilau Rice 3,00€

At most Indian restaurants in Portugal you will need to add a side of rice or naan as they typically do not come with the dish, with the exception of some lunch specials.

Mango Kulfi

For dessert you can enjoy Mango Kulfi - traditional Indian ice cream.

Shahi Darbar Indian Restaurant Review

Shahi Darbar is a beachside Indian restaurant in the Algarvian fishing town Armacao de Pera. Conveniently located and conveniently delicious ;), we found the curries to be flavorful and the staff super kind.

To enjoy a curry dish with a bread or rice, a beverage, and a dessert you're looking at right around the 20 euro mark per head, on average.

During your next Armacao de Pera holiday, give Shahi Darbar Indian Cuisine a go when you've got a hankering for curry! :)

5 Great places to eat in Ajuda

6/15/2025

Most known for the Palácio Nacional da Ajuda (National Palace of Ajuda), Ajuda is an often overlooked Lisbon neighborhood with fewer tourists and plenty of nice views.

Picture
Views from Ajuda at Night

Nestled between infamous Belém waterfront and Parque Florestal de Monsanto, a huge park full of trails and greenery right in the heart of Lisbon, Ajuda is low key with a combination of grit and charm, not to mention some surprisingly great restaurants.

In this article we will share 5 Ajuda restaurants we tried on this week in Lisbon trip as well as a few outliers just for fun. ;)

Tlaloc un rincón mexicano

One thing many Americans miss when they move to Portugal is actually Mexican food. Great tacos are not especially easy to find in Portugal.

At Tlaloc Un Rincon Mexicano you can scratch that itch with birria tacos, tinga tacos, horchata, and do not forget the tres leches cake.

Di Amici by Pizza em Casa

Lisbon has some fabulous Pizza places and we really enjoyed our visit to Amici. Heads up, sparkling sangria may or may not have some limoncello and the 'nduja pizza is a must!

Churrasqueira do Marques

Traditional Portuguese grilled chicken and pork are such simple meals, but when executed well leave you so satisfied. That's the experience we had at Churrasqueira Marques.

Food Hub

When you want quick and affordable Kebabs in Ajuda try Food Hub. For around 5.50 euro at the time of our visit you can fill up on a Doner Kebab menu which comes with fries and a drink!

Santo Graal Burger & Grill

Santo Graal (Holy Grail) Burger and Grill serves up gourmet bugers and steaks, crispy fries, and even a blonde and red house ipa.

Fiesta Restro And Snack Bar

Okay so this restaurant is not in Ajuda, it's in Benfica neighborhood and we hit it up after a medical appointment at Hospital da Luz in Amadora.

Hilariously, Fiesta Restro and Snack Bar is not at all a Mexican restaurant, but in fact a spot where you can enjoy Nepalese, Indian, and Portuguese food.

Don't skip the sparkling sangria, pani puri, and momos - they were highlights of this Lisbon trip!

Everest Curry & Sekuwa Corner

This was an Uber Eats order after a long convention day, so it came from the other side of Lisbon to our Ajuda airbnb. The restaurant was running a lot of BOGO offers, so we ended up with way too much food and it lasted for 2.5 meals!

We ordered Jeera rice, chicken stuffed naan, thai curry, and butter chicken. Everything was okay overall. The butter chicken was the best dish we ordered.

Pasteis de Belem

Belem is a nice walk from Ajuda and you can try two of the most famous Pastel de Nata establishments including Pasteis de Belem.

Manteigaria

Grab yourself another pastel de nata over at Manteigaria before walking back up to Ajuda. And I mean that very literally, it's an uphill climb and you're sure to burn off all the calories from the pastries so... win!

MoMo Express

If you're arriving into Lisbon or departing via Oriente Station, you'd be remiss if you skipped Momo Express food truck. Tasty Nepalese momos, flavorful samosas (go veggie for this one!) and chai of this caliber, you'll struggle to find outside of Asia.

If you have never had a Mango Lassi before, what are you waiting for?!  Lidl is carrying ready to drink Lassis in two flavors - Mango and Pineapple-Coconut.
Mango Lassi
Pineapple Coconut Lassi
Shown above: Vitasia Indian Style Lassi Manga + Vitasia Indian Style Lassi Piña/Ananás & Coco

Learn Portuguese

Mango in Portuguese is manga
Pineapple in Portuguese is ananás or abacaxi. Piña is Spanish for pineapple lol.
Coconut in Portuguese is Coco.

Vitasia Indian Style Lassi Ingredients and Nutrition Information

Tap an image below to enlarge it if you want to read the ingredients or nutrition information for the Mango Lassi or the Pineapple Coconut Lassi.
When you peel back the foil lid of the lassi containers you reveal a plastic seal with an opening to drink out of! This design worked great!

To recycle this package you remove the outer cardboard layer which is the label of this product and put it in the blue recycling bin, then you can put the plastic cup along with the foil lid in the yellow recycling bin which is for plastic and metal. :)

Vitasia Indian Style Lassi Review

We loved these Lassis! The flavor and texture were great on both, nice and creamy, and if you have never had a lassi before and don't plan to visit an Indian restaurant to order one, I think these are a solid introduction. Mango Lassi is very traditional and we did prefer it over the pineapple coconut edition.

Still, if you love Piña coladas you'll love the pineapple-coconut lassi too! The coconut flavor is prominent so you must love coconut to enjoy this beverage.

Lassis are a yogurt based beverage popular in India so if you're feeling exotic why not swing by your local  Lidl and see if you can still nab one of these delights?!

Natraj Indian Tandoori Vilamoura

9/9/2024

Spice lovers rejoice! Flavorful Indian food in Portugal is widely accessible!

Let's visit Natraj Indian Tandoori Restaurant in Vilamoura.

What we ordered.

Papadam + Chutneys

Papadam (think of a big cracker in the shape of pizza dough only lighter and crispier), along with small dips are basically the Indian version of bread and butter or oil at the table before your meal. Typically you will have some sort of sweet chutney, a spicy one, and a cooling mint-yogurt variation.

Samosas

A Samosa is a deep fried dough parcel stuffed with a well-spiced mixture of vegetables or meat. In this case we opted for one chicken samosa and one vegetarian samosa. Often the vegetable samosas are more flavorful than their meat-filled counterparts!

Chicken tikka masala

Much like ordering a Margherita Pizza at every new pizza place we try, we always order chicken tikka masala at every new Indian restaurant we try. This was the first time we ever saw such a red sauce!

An Indian flat bread like this garlic and herbed naan is also a must for scooping up tender chicken chunks and mopping up the sauce!

Desserts

For dessert we tried Galub Jamun (indian donuts soaked in sugar syrup - super sweet) and Pistachio Kulfi (a cold dessert flavored with pistachio).

We had also ordered a mango lassi which is a delicious beverage consisting of mango blended with yogurt. I always order a mango lassi at Indian restaurants because the sweet creamy nature of the drink is ideal with the spicy food!
