Good To Know:

A great place for drinks (including the likes of fresh lemonade and vegan milkshakes), they have Happy Hour and live music sometimes.

What It's Like:

An Algarve ice cream brand serving up international favorites alongside very Portuguese flavors (ie Dom Rodrigo, Fig and Almond) with unbeatable views.

Good to know:

Plenty of indoor seating available if you need shelter from the sun or occasional rain drop. Bathrooms are down many stairs. Not ideal for those with mobility concerns.

What It's Like:

A classic Portuguese restaurant serving many traditional meals. Please try some Portuguese food during your Portugal trip!

What It's Like:

An extra tasty Chinese restaurant. Big reccos for chicken fried noodles (lo mein), dumplings, fried spring rolls, and the won ton soup.

Good To Know:

A smoky draft sometimes enters the restaurant due to the smoke from outdoor diners. If sensitive, choose a seat away tucked away from the door. Restaurant has a TV which often plays live football (soccer).

What it's Like:

Super cute cafe and roaster that doubles as an art gallery for local artists.

Homemade cookies and bakery treats at Kanuck Coffee in Armacao de Pera, Portugal

Good To Know:

Kanuck hosts a free weekly run group. They also take orders for small batch sourdough bread, delivered twice a week from Padaria Santa Isabel in Portimao.

They really do a lot to support the community locally so definitely check them out!

We've only ordered takeout, but we can say that the owner is super friendly. :)

Sappori da Giovani closes for most of the winter off-season, so if you're visiting in the low season check to be sure they are open before traveling, k?

Cowie Lisbon Brunch Spot

Cowie is a cute and very instagrammable brunch spot in Lisbon with some interesting dishes on the menu.

Ordering at Cowie

Ordering at Cowie can be done by ringing that red and black Call button on the table as shown below. The menu is available via scanning the QR code on the napkin holder.

Scanning QR codes for menus is pretty common across Portugal. You will often see the QR code taped or laminated to the tables, chairs, or napkin holders as in this case.

For our brunch bevvies we ordered a fresh squeezed orange juice and a latte.

Cowie Brunch Review

Cowie is a really cute spot in Lisbon, freshly designed with adorable cow print accents and a bar top for co-working.

The day we were in town happened to be a holiday where people (apparently) like to go for brunch. So the place was packed. They also had the heat turned up so high it was stiffling, which really took away from the experience, unfortunately

About the food: The food was lovely and well presented. I was too intruiged to pass up the duck broth white bean puree with the poached egg from the executive brunch menu. The flavors were good, but there was a textural imbalance with too much being smooth, squishy (bean puree + egg). The toast wasn't quite enough to balance it out both in texture and in quantity. Everything felt slightly too monotoned.

Cowie has potential to be a great brunch spot in Lisbon.

As much as brunch always sounds like a a winning idea, we are seeing a pattern that it is really challenging to execute well. This isn't the first time we had a less-than-great experience at brunch in Lisbon.

The aesthetic is there, as is room to grow. :)

Honestly, few things are trendier than avo toast at brunch, but just take a look at the color of that avocado! It's absolutely perrrrfect.

Almalusa Coffee and friends Aramcao de Pera Review

Almalusa is a very cute brunch spot near the beach in Armacao de Pera. It's well styled, the presentation is lovely, and you're steps from the beach - a winning combo!

Pro Tip: Almalusa is a CASH ONLY establishment.

You can see at the top of their menu that they do not accept "multibanco" aka credit cards. Although I get it that there are extra fees for processing credit card payments, this is always a bit disappointing especially in a tourist area, so close to the beach, in a trendy little spot.

Just keep it in mind if you want to stop in here, be sure to bring cash. :)
